Ala-fuckin'-bama

September 2014 four artists gather in Alabama to work for the 'Worlds First Drive Thru Gallery show'. Butch Anthony is host on his 80 acre family property, a folk-art compound in Seale Alabama. Butch is an artist not easily defined, who collects bizarre objects and transforms them into strangely beautiful art. His exhibition Vita Post Mortum in the Akron Art Museum, Ohio, runs through January 2015. Dutch artist Diederick Kraaijeveld creates monumental realistic sculptures out of salvaged wood. Diederick sourced his wood from century old Alabama collapsed houses, deserted schools and abandoned stores. Niek Wagemans, also from Holland, recreates furniture from locally sourced materials: 'confused furniture'. Before he arrived in Alabama he built a bar out of found material in the Dutch embassy in Berlin. RC Hagans was born in Texas and raised in Oplika AL. It's the need to always be doing something that drawes the 27-year-old to contemporary art. Although he works with any medium he can get his hands on, Hagans specializes in cut paper and aerosol paints. With no formal training to hold him back, he feels free experimenting. Often, that’s where his best pieces are conceived.
